Ingredients in Coconut Milk Coffee

Kitchen Tools for Coconut Milk Coffee

  • Small saucepan
  • Heatproof mug or cup
  • Spoon for stirring
  • Kettle for boiling water
  • Fine mesh sieve or coffee filter

How to Make Coconut Milk Coffee

  1. Place three tsp. of freshly ground coffee beans directly into the small saucepan.
  2. Boil 1/2 cup of water using a kettle. Once boiled, carefully pour the hot water over the ground coffee beans in the saucepan.
  3. Stir the coffee mixture gently with a spoon, then let it steep off the heat for about 4 minutes. This allows the coffee flavors to extract fully.
  4. While the coffee is steeping, add three tablespoons of canned coconut milk to a heatproof mug or cup.
  5. Add two teaspoons of pure vanilla extract to the coconut milk and stir to combine. This step is optional but enhances the flavor.
  6. After the coffee has steeped for 4 minutes, strain it through a fine mesh sieve or coffee filter into another container or directly into the prepared mug, removing the grounds. Be careful not to have any grounds in your final brew.Ā
  7. If not already done, pour the strained coffee into the mug containing the coconut milk and vanilla mixture. Stir well to ensure the flavors meld together beautifully.
  8. If desired, adjust the sweetness to your liking by adding your preferred sweetener at this stage.Ā
  9. Optionally, garnish with grated chocolate on top for an added treat and visual appeal.
  10. Savor your deliciously crafted Coconut Milk Coffee, perfect for any time of day when you need a flavorful pick-me-up!

Tips

  1. Choose High-Fat Coconut Milk: The key to a rich and creamy coconut milk coffee is using coconut milk that’s high in fat. This type of coconut milk will blend more seamlessly with the coffee, providing a smoother texture and a more luxurious taste.

  2. Preparation of Coconut Milk:

  3. Chilling for Enhanced Flavor: Refrigerate the thick coconut milk for about half an hour before using it in your coffee. This chilling process enhances the flavor and texture, making your coffee resemble ā€œcafĆ© a la glaceā€ (coffee with ice cream), offering a rich and decadent taste.

  4. Discarding Coconut Water: For a thicker consistency, it’s beneficial to remove the coconut water from the canned coconut milk. To do this, store the can upside down in your pantry. When you’re ready to use it, open the can from the bottom and pour out the clear liquid, leaving the thick coconut cream behind

  5. Controlled Heat: When brewing coffee in a Cezve, itā€™s crucial to control the heat. A slow and steady heat brings out the best in your coffee, preventing it from burning and ensuring a smooth flavor.

  6. Optimal Coffee Grounds: Use a fine grind for your coffee when brewing in a Cezve. This will ensure a full extraction of flavor and a rich, aromatic cup.

  7. Coffee and Coconut Milk:

  8. Adjust the ratio:Ā Some may prefer a stronger coffee flavor, while others might like a creamier texture with more coconut milk.

  9. After brewing your coffee in the Cezve, slowly add in the chilled coconut milk. The temperature contrast between the hot coffee and cold milk can create a delightful texture and taste.

  10. Sweetening Your Coffee: If you prefer a sweeter taste, consider adding a natural sweetener like honey or agave syrup. These sweeteners complement the tropical flavor of coconut milk well.

  11. Experiment with Flavors: Don’t hesitate to experiment with additional flavors like vanilla, cinnamon, or nutmeg to add an extra layer of complexity to your coconut milk coffee.

  12. Serving Suggestion: Serve your coffee in a pre-warmed mug to maintain its temperature. Garnishing with a sprinkle of cinnamon or cocoa powder can add an inviting touch.

  13. Environmental Consideration: If possible, choose organic and sustainably sourced coconut milk. This not only ensures a better product but also supports sustainable farming practices.

  14. Storage Tips for Coconut Milk: If you have leftover coconut milk, store it in an airtight container in the fridge. It usually keeps well for three days and can be used in other recipes or for another batch of coffee.
