Tips

  1. Choosing Your Oats:
Whole oatmeal typically refers to oat groats, which are whole, minimally processed oats. They take the longest to cook, usually about 30-60 minutes.
  2. Steel-cut oats are oat groats that have been chopped into smaller pieces. They have a chewier texture and take about 20-30 minutes to cook.
  3. Cooking the Oats:
  4. For steel-cut oats, simmer for 20-30 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  5. For whole oats, simmer for 30-60 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  6. Bring the liquid to a boil, then add your oats. Reduce the heat to a simmer.
  7. Use a ratio of about 1 part oats to 3-4 parts water or milk. For creamier oatmeal, use more liquid.
  8.  Flavoring:
  9. For additional flavour, consider adding cinnamon, vanilla extract, or nutmeg. You can also add sweeteners like honey, maple syrup, or brown sugar, according to your taste.
  10. Texture Adjustments: If the oatmeal is too thin, continue cooking for a few more minutes until it thickens. If it is too thick, add more liquid until you reach your desired consistency.
  11. Serving: Fresh fruits, dried fruits, or a sprinkle of granola can also add interesting textures and flavors. Top your  fruit oatmeal with a dollop of yogurt, nuts, seeds, or peanut butter for added flavor and texture.
  12. Leftovers: Reheat with added water or milk to restore the oatmeal’s creamy texture. It can be stored in the refrigerator for up to a week.
